Ok, we were playing around in Salem, MA. You know the somewhat famous home of the Salem Witch trials and, apparently more famous site for the movie “Hocus Pocus” and the TV Show “Bewitched.”
I found it curious that all of the museums, tours, and kitschy tourist shops only started popping up after being featured on the 70’s show Bewitched. Perhaps not all that much has changed regarding our interest in history and the media’s ability to drive attention!
The mass hysteria that locked up over 200 people and ultimately caused 20 to be executed seems to repeat itself throughout history (not in conjunction with witchcraft specifically but with anything deemed socially inappropriate.). I’m thinking we should all pay attention the the majority isn’t always right phenomenon as well as the misuse of governmental authority.
Yes, I know that was in the 1690’s but, the lessons are every bit as relevant today.
Anyway, the photo above was some playing around with the “Wizard of Marketing” theme as we did some fun family photos dressed as witches. Costumes I’m guessing more in line with Bewitched or Hocus Pocus than anything that really happened back in the 1690’s.
